1977

A great season for the club. We won Seaham and District League, League Cup and the Leukemia Charity Cup. I was selected for the League team along with Brian Page, Harry Clark, Jimmy Clark and Ernie Carlin (Trainer). I was given the extra honour of team captain which was a surprise, but very pleasing, considering I wasn't captain of the YC team.

These were the first, of many, trophies to be won by the club.

The win against the 'Rest of the League' must have been a tremendous game to watch with 10 goals being scored in a 7-3 win.

As can be seen from this page there is some interesting reading.

The two convincing cup final wins

From the 7th April to the 3rd May, 28 days, we played 11 matches. The last 5 days of this period we played 4 games. This was the price of doing well in the cup games. In this 28 day period we won every match except one. That was the 3-0 drubbing by Seaham Red Star who got there revenge for our earlier 3-1 win. Considering that most of our players also played Sunday football it was an outstanding end of season performance.

Outstanding Individual Performances:

7 players missed 2 or less games.

Ever present
Brian Page and Brian Gibbs scored 25 goals and 11 respectively from mid field in 41 games.

As
Norman Baird wasn't mentioned in the appearances he must have scored 21 in less that 15 games. Similarly Dennis Doran scored 8 in under 15 games.

Alan Pearson, Billy Anderson, Derek Duffy and Keith Hembrough all averaged a goal in every other game they played.

Norman T Taylor scored 5

The above page shows the results of the last 13 games of the season along with the full seasons appearances and goal scorers. I assume I was given this page because it gave the goal scorers for the season. Obviously the previous page(s) remained in someones note book. If anyone recognises the hand writing let me know.

I missed 10 games this season through injury.

The last report pleasantly surprised me when I first saw it because it shows that Keith Hembrough scored 5 goals in a game against Thornley YC. I can't recall the game but as Keith probably never thought of himself as a goalscorer this was a great achievement.

Interleague games were played at the end of this season and if you were selected to represent the league you would have received a letter and certificate, as shown below, from the League secretary, John Lowery.
